Working With You: GW Engineering
Welcome to The George Washington University School of Engineering and
Applied Science website. We’re glad that you have chosen to visit
us here.
We would like to take a moment to share with you a little bit about
the corporate and government partnerships that are so important to us
and to our partners. Whether for the purpose of cooperating on research,
providing academic training and programs, or producing well-trained
engineering students and graduates, our partnerships create synergies
that work for everyone.
Our research expertise brings us into collaboration with numerous governmental
offices and agencies, working on everything from homeland security and
defense-related issues to aviation safety and national parks management.
We undertake joint research with corporate partners, too. In fact, Hyundai-KIA
teamed with us in 2003 to establish the Automotive Safety Research Laboratory.
The laboratory, which coordinates Hyundai-KIA’s research activities
by interfacing with the company's engineering resources and with other
research organizations and universities in the United States, will enhance
transportation safety by advancing the state of crashworthiness and
biomechanics engineering. And while the lab team emphasizes safety issues
that are specifically tailored to Hyundai-KIA’s research and development,
the solutions ultimately will benefit the entire safety community.
SEAS also works closely with a number of corporations and governmental
agencies to provide academic training for their employees. We currently
have arrangements with Science Applications International Corporation
(SAIC), Lockheed Martin, Orbital Sciences, the National Imagery and
Mapping Agency, the Naval Surface Warfare Center, and others. At SAIC,
for example, student-employees learn from our instructors in a local
classroom, while their colleagues in eight other SAIC locations throughout
the U.S. participate in real-time learning via a two-way audio and video
hookup.
Finally, SEAS helps our partners meet their need for bright, well-prepared
engineers who are ready to accept today’s engineering challenges.
By providing a first-rate engineering education for our students and
by facilitating internship and co-operative work programs with our partners,
SEAS works to ensure that they have access to the engineering talent
they need.
We are enthusiastic about building collaborative relationships, and
we would welcome to opportunity to talk to you about them. If you are
interested in discussing potential collaboration with us, please contact
us at 202-994-6080 or e-mail: tong@gwu.edu.
